Our Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP)

PSP helps carriers make more informed hiring decisions by providing secure, electronic access to a commercial driver’s five-year crash and three-year inspection history from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS). Records are available for commercial drivers, and motor carriers.

Criminal Record Check

Every company regulated by the Department of Transportation is required to run this type of screening on applicants. Conducting a comprehensive background check helps you pin point the right hire, protects your business, and works to prevent safety problems before they happen.

Drug & Alcohol Screening

Utilizing the country’s largest network of collection sites and testing laboratories, our team will ensure unparalleled efficiency and support for your national business needs in both regulated and non-regulated environments. IDS will provide scheduling and administrative support to ensure our client’s drug screening program is efficient and cost effective. Our services include a national scheduling center to locate and schedule necessary services such as emergency on site testing. IDS offers after hour/emergency testing 24/7. IDS’ drug testing facilities are Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) certified.

Employment Verification

In addition to verifying general employment information, such as dates of employment and job title(s), to follow the DOT’s legal requirements, three years of employment history is required. An applicant’s work history can uncover any issues at a previous employment, or false information provided on an application. It also reveals if the applicant had unsafe driving practices at another job. Drug Testing is also required as part of the employment verification process. Employers look at the previous three years of drug history checks to determine if the driver had any drug or alcohol violations. This includes whether the driver has ever tested positive on a drug or alcohol test, refused to test, or completed or failed a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Motor Vehicle Records Check

DOT’s requirements include a check of an applicant’s motor vehicle record from every state they’ve been licensed in during the last three years to show if they have had a history of safe driving. IDS’ Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR) provide a comprehensive review of individual driving records, including offenses and citations. Our reports can reveal DUIs, suspensions, administrative actions, and other convictions not found on a criminal court record.

Occupation Health Screening, Physicals and Exam Management

Drivers need to have an up-to-date physical exam to drive a commercial vehicle. This ensures that the driver does not have any medical conditions that would impair their ability to safely operate a vehicle.
